Citizens Town Hall Watch Danville City Council Squirm

Watch Danville's City Council squirm as they pretend not to know or care where the word Sustainability came from in their general plan. Keep in mind that they had just spent over 2 hours carefully discussing the meaning of words like "encourage", "facilitate", "coordinate" and "cooperate" to determine whether they should be included or excluded in areas of the plan. However they refused to properly credit and source the word "Sustainability" which is the foundation for the entire General Plan, SAP (Sustainable Action Plan) and EIR (Environmental Impact Report). The word Sustainable appears 158 times in the GP and SAP. The definition in the Danville general plan was taken almost verbatim from the UN Brundtland Report titled "Our Common Future" from 1987.

If the Danville town council wants to use the UN definition of Sustainable they should openly state so in their planning documents. The dictionary defines Sustainable as "maintain", "Supoort" and "uphold".
For the town to take on the UN definition and not disclose it is to be dishonest and a  breach of their fiduciary duty.  The people of Danville deserve to know the source of the word “Sustainability” and the international implications that go along with it.
