an Oceanside Councilman and SD Water Authority board member rips the Met -

this Modesto Bee story about wells running dry in parts of Stanislaus County is worth a read, particularly the line that says most other states manage groundwater pumping, "but not California" -

and while Clips is praising the ModBee for its way with words, this story about Modesto ID's approach to water sales to others has a line we love: "San Francisco was no sister. More like an obnoxious cousin" -

Westlands gives out $6,000 in scholarships to high school seniors, probably just about matching one day's worth of its charitable contributions to "charities" like Costa,  Denham, McCarthy, Feinstein, et. al.

and here Westlands GM Birmingham complains again about Westlands not getting its full "contracted allotment" and Clips affiliate Sam explains what that really means -

Butte County Water Commission forms a new committee to keep an eye on plans for Sites Reservoir (aka the Great Evaporation Pond) -

Senator Feinstein has an opinion piece in the SacBee in which she does the following: (1) barely attempts to hide her threat to mess with the ESA; (2) sympathizes with those who use 80% of the water while contributing 2% to the economy, while whining about contract allocations that they knew were going to happen; (3) cheerleads for raising Shasta and building Sites and Temperance;  and (4) cheerleads some more for BDCP which she says will restore the Delta. (OK, now I'll go back to being a compiler and not a critic) -

meanwhile several Northern California Congressional types apparently  have a meeting scheduled with the BDCP folks next week and in this letter to the Guv they ask some excellent questions they hope will be answered at that meeting -

Dan Bacher writes about the plans of some groups to litigate the DSC's Delta Plan and he also covers the start up of Californians for a Fair Water Policy which will oppose BDCP -

        The House Committee on Natural Resources by unanimous vote approved H.R. 1411, The California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act of 2013. (H.R. 1411) on June 12, 2013. The bill, which was introduced by freshman Rep. Jared Huffman (San Rafael) would expand the California Coastal National Monument by 1,255 acres near Mendocino, California. Specifically, the bill would include the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands in the California Coastal National Monument as a part of the National Landscape Conservation System. It would add 10 miles to the California Coastal Trail and includes the Garcia Estuary and two miles of the Garcia River, a critical habitat for salmon and steelhead. The land includes habitat for endangered species, and keeps the current recreational, ranching, and research uses of the land.

the Met did raise taxes as a beginning to paying for the Peripheral Tunnels, but not after getting an earful -

this coming Monday a group of fishing, environmental and farming organizations will be announcing to the media that they will be filing suit to stop the recently released Delta Plan (new Clips readers are very briefly reminded that the Delta Plan is somewhat different, but closely related to, the pending Bay Delta Conservation Plan, aka, the Peripheral Tunnels) -

this is an 1&1/2 hour Vimeo of an ACWA panel on May 9 featuring a panel of stars including Kate Poole, Mike Machado, Greg Gartrell, Jeff Kightlinger, and Jason Peltier discussing the Tunnels, using the provocative title "How Big is Big Enough" -

BDCP flak Richard Stapler (he who said Jerry Meral's remarks about not saving the Delta were taken out of context) continues to earn his pay by trying to convince us that we will learn to love Peripheral Tunnels "muck" ( thank gosh for spell check) -

speaking of paid flaks, the ubiquitous one earns his salary with this LTE in the SacBee telling us that BDCP will "help" the Delta and then referring us to the flaks at BDCP (Clips encourages all Clipsters to take this opportunity to both make a comment below Mike's letter and send your own letter to the Bee) -

Since the United States Postal Service is part of the US government, wouldn’t it make sense for the government to use the USPS?  Evidently, they aren’t.  According to recent reports, 25 federal agencies have contracted with UPS from 2010 to 2013, resulting in their receiving $122 million of government business.  Fed Ex received contracts from the feds for the same time period worth $48.5 million.
